Argentina and wine country
Crossing the border from Bolivia to Argentina was like entering another world We
were enjoying the new changes immediately. Paved roads, organized
traffic, good steak and great wine, with a European feel we almost
passed as locals..... almost ;) A quick stop in Salta (enough time for a
good bottle of Argentinian Malbec) before heading to Cafayete. Cafayete
is a small town with big numbers for wine production as was explained to
us in one of the many wine tours. Besides the wine was the
beautiful countryside with red rock, cacti and crystal clear streams
with pools good for swimming. At our small family run hostel
we decided that our only pre-requisite for hostels in Argentina was a
good BBQ for the great cheap steaks.
At the border into Argentina, our most southern destination Ushuaia.

Off to Mendoza the one task needing to be completed here was to rent bikes and go to all the "bodegas" and vineyards.
Renting bicycles and trying to fit in as many wine tastings and tours as
you can in a day hardily sounds safe....... it's not. Riding along
in 30deg C weather under giant deciduous trees with the roads lined with
endless rolling hillsides of grapes at various stages of maturity was beautiful. 5
bodegas, 1 wine museum and an olive oil plantation which included an
absinthe tasting. HIGH SCORE!
It was now time to move on to Santiago Chile.
