Sipping coffee and diving with sharks

Boquete

We took a 4 hour bus from Bocas to the hills of Boquete. A small town nestled amongst cloud topped hills and coffee plantations it was voted one of the top five places to retire by american magazine. So what were the people like here? Coffee loving american retirees. haha. There were also traditionally dressed locals :)  Finding a cute hostel next to the river we headed out for a hike to a waterfall.

Local mom

Beautiful lush forest

The waterfall - apparently it's dry season

The next day was my birthday, April 17th. Deciding to explore the hills we rented a scooter for the day. Zipping up and down the curvy roads with my arms wrapped around Chris was the perfect way to spend it :)

Please put your hands back on the bike!

Enjoying the view

An old castle apparently haunted by el diablo.

Afternoon coffee stop.

Hallucinogenic Angel Trumpet Flower

Returning to the hostel that evening Chris made me an amazing dinner along with wine, and the best rum punch you have ever had! Thinking the day was coming to an end Chris comes out with a cake and a pinata!!!

Here goes!!

"Hey! where did it go!"

CANDY!

Santa Catalina

The next destination was an even smaller town on the Pacific coast. Known for its shark diving that's what we were there to do.  The tiny town had no internet and no ATM's, one of the first for us!

A walk along the beach turned up a dead hammerhead shark and an abandoned house.

Isla Coiba is the largest island in the national park/marine reserve and takes an hour to get to from land. Our dives for the day were both near the island.

White tip reef shark hiding in the hole.

We saw about 12 white tips all swimming much too close!

Small spotted moray eel

Sea horse! Who can sea it?

Eating lunch on Isla Coiba we encountered more scary wildlife!

Salt water crocodile

"Chris don't get too close."

"Christopher he's looking at you!"
